In the Fourth Era, Emperor Titus Mede II refused to cede land from Southern Hammerfell to the Aldmeri Dominion, which broke out the Great War.

Redguards of the East held a grudge against the Nords after the war and tried to regain land to no avail. After the Redguard king Thassadd II was killed, the Crowns' effort fell to the Imperial-backed Forebears, and Hammerfell became part of the Septim Empire.

Mostly remaining a closed culture, they only began trade with High Rock when they shared with the Bretons a common enemy with the Orcs of Orsinium, eventually replacing their Yokudan language to ease trade.Ī civil war broke out in Hammerfell after tensions rose between the Crowns, favoring traditional Yokudan culture and the Forebears, descendants of the Ra Gada wishing to remain close to the rest of Tamriel for trade and political purposes. Some warrior Yokudans known as the Ra Gada began moving across the mainland in 1E 808, conquering tribes and driving off the Orsimer, eventually earning the name Redguard. When Yokuda, the Redguard's former continent, sank into the ocean around 1E 792, the surviving Yokudans (Redguards) sailed east to settle in Hammerfell.
